Man/machine integration had already become common long before The Fall. The dark times that preceded it resulted in a non negligible loss of know-how, knowledge and expertise in the domain of Cybernetics.
Not satisfied with the study and design of systems that are capable of learning, adapting, and evolving, Cybernetics more and more delves into an actual evolutionary fusion, what's more on a scale that gets gradually smaller.
Cybernetics also involves research about artificial intelligence - and provides the technical and material substrate for adaptable and artificial minds designed with the help of other, "softer" sciences.
