Exovivogenesis

Exovivogenesis is the art of growing plants, crops or more generally living cells within the confine of specialised, controlled environments. Often referred to as Vertical Agricultural Tank (VAT) growing, this family of techniques is particularly suited for environments where traditional farming is impractical: spacecraft, orbital stations or even enclosed/sealed surface-based locations or colonies with limited space at their disposal .

At its core, Exovivogenesis integrates closed-loop nutrient (water or others) delivery systems to precisely control their supply to the growth subjects. The VATs employ hydroponic solutions or related techniques, where nutrient-rich liquids are circulated around the growths, or aeroponic misting, thus providing nutrients in a fine mist. At higher levels of expertise and knowledge, Exovivogenesis involves the nutrient delivery at direct molecular level thanks to various nano-based tools and systems.
