Leukocytics

The things is… from an evolutionary perspective, the brain's output - anything intellectual: technological, societal, etc - has moved on considerably faster than the envelope of flesh and organs around it.
This results in a huge gap: the brain takes us to places that our bodies weren't meant for. Dangerous places.
Our work is to bridge that gap. Celia Cartier-Zhong, Grand transgenomist, BF77

Leukocytics is the advanced manipulation, genome-editing and usage of leukocytes, primarily neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes. This genetic reprogramming enables the creation of cells with enhanced immune responses, improved pathogen recognition, or the ability to target specific diseases with greater precision. This results in adaptive recognition of non-standard threats, such as highly evolved bioengineered pathogens or nanomechanical viruses

Applications are numerous:

  • Synthetic immunity: synthetic receptors or new cytokines result in customised immune functions. These modifications allow for targeted interventions against pathogens, cancer cells, or other abnormal cells within the body.
  • Biological sensors and actuators: embedding of biological sensors into leukocytes that can detect specific biomarkers or environmental conditions, triggering appropriate responses such as the release of therapeutic agents or activation of other immune functions.
  • Cross-species immunological traits: "native" leukocytes can perform functions seen in other organisms - such as the regenerative properties of salamander macrophages, or the highly efficient phagocytosis found in certain ancient marine species.

Research

Tier3.000A decimal number between 0.0 and ~12.0 indicating the overall level of "advancement" of the science
TypeAppliedPure sciences are focused on research and the improvement of knowledge. Applied sciences are too, but to a lesser extent and grant access to more concrete outcomes such as blueprints, governance, and others.
