Noogenesis
Noogenesis regroups techniques and processes studying the emergence or evolution of intelligence and consciousness. It encompasses the development of cognitive abilities, knowledge, and thought systems, either biologically (in humans and animals) or potentially artificially (in machines and artificial intelligence).
In a natural/biological context, Noogenesis refers to the evolutionary processes by which cognitive capacities develop in species over time. This can include the evolution of problem-solving skills, memory, language and even abstract thinking.
When taken into an artificial context, though, Noogenesis refers to the development of machine cognition, where AI systems exhibit increasing levels of autonomy, learning capability, and possibly even the emergence of self-awareness or a form of "artificial consciousness". This includes AI's ability to process information, adapt, and evolve within predefined parameters, possibly reaching a point where it outstrips human - even augmented ones - cognitive capabilities in certain tasks.
Research
| Tier | 5.200 | A decimal number between 0.0 and ~12.0 indicating the overall level of "advancement" of the science |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Pure | Pure sciences are focused on research and the improvement of knowledge. Applied sciences are too, but to a lesser extent and grant access to more concrete outcomes such as blueprints, governance, and others. |
