Particle physics continues to be a vital area of research, exploring the smallest components of matter and the fundamental forces that govern their interactions. Thanks to breakthroughs in accelerators miniaturisation and sophistication, Particle physics has benefited from advances that had not been possible before.
The old "Standard Model" still holds true - but only somewhat. New exotic particles are now observed and - perhaps more importantly - created and controlled.
Particle physics is a fundamental science, whose reach in innumerable other fields cannot be overstated.
