Post-biologics
We study the afterlife.
Ho no, not in the Old Earth sense and all this primitive mysticism, no. We seek to understand what can come after what we currently know: how does it all evolve? And perhaps more importantly, towards what? Rank II sensor-monitor John AGK - High grade mind, AF2922
Post-biologics study alternatives to life as it is currently known. It seeks to understand how life can be supported in and by completely new substrates, transcending not only biology but also artificiality.
One goal is the search for the most diminutive "quanta" that can cause life - but not necessarily consciousness - to emerge. What are the rules governing them? Is it possible to understand, harness and control them? To what goal? The field is both technical and also profoundly philosophical as it explores the literal frontiers of what it currently means to be alive.
