Sociology's relevance is often cast aside when considering the implications of collapse, planetary conquests or colonisation, or the rise of intergalactic alliances. Look, humans will never live like they did before. To think that they will is illusory.
By now Humanity is interconnected through vast digital networks and societies span across planets, artificial habitats and nomad fleets. Sociology thus has to evolve and embrace complex change.
Sociology studies the intricate social dynamics of hybrid communities composed of humans, augmented beings, AI entities, or non-biological life forms. Sociologists analyse how culture, power, and identity transform in a world where physical and virtual realities merge, where social interactions take place over pseudo-virtual substrates and where collective consciousness can be formed in digital realms.
Sociology is not so much about post-scarcity than about governance of often extremely decentralised and sparse communities. As Humanity and its creations coexist and co-evolve, it becomes essential in understanding and guiding the future of social organisation.
