Room temperature superconductivity was achieved well before The Fall - enabling feats that had previously been the exclusivity of extremely low temperature environments, which, in the vast majority of cases, meant laboratories. Superconduction does indeed reshape the landscape of energy transportation, communication and power sources engineering.
Today, Superconductivity continues on that path and explores further conduction properties, deep at the atomic and subatomic levels. Pairing can be doped, amplified, and some theorists propose that going beyond the "super" might be possible.
At the heart of superconduction is the Cooper pairing mechanism, where electrons form pairs and move through a lattice without scattering. Advances in high-temperature superconductors - often based on advanced cuprates and pnictides - have expanded the operational temperature range, removing the need for liquid helium or nitrogen cooling. These materials demonstrate not only zero resistance but also enhanced magnetic flux trapping, which is crucial for applications like magnetically confined fusion reactors and maglev transport systems.
